Bear Metal Works worked alongside a future homeowner in her quest to design a custom steel surround for her new fireplace. With the customer from out of town and having to design this piece remotely was a challenge in its own. We detailed a specific look the customer wanted and worked from sketches and pictures of designs she liked. From there we drew up 3D renderings and got detailed measurements from the jobsite to fabricate our pieces. This was made out of 10ga Hot Rolled Steel and the hearth in front was 3/8'' plate. We made sure there was no sharp edges, and everything fit nice and snug before putting the finishing touches on. We used a blackening solution to give the pieces a deep rich color while also keeping the character of the steel. We then used a clear primer on top to prevent the steel from rusting. The hearth in front sits flush with the hardwood floor to give it a sleek modern look. We love how this came out!
